Ever wanted to grab a handful of meowing chaos and throw it on your screen? Well, Jingle Cats for the PS1 is here to ruin Christmas in the most gloriously bizarre way possible. And yes - it’s real. And yes - we played it. On the MiSTer FPGA, no less, because if we’re going to suffer through this feline fever dream, we’re doing it with pixel-perfect precision.
Released in 1998 for the PlayStation (aka PS1, aka PSX, aka “what even is this game”), Jingle Cats is less of a game and more of a confusing cat-themed acid trip set to holiday jingles. There’s no plot apart from the plot of love. There’s no logic. Just you, a screen full of cats, and a controller. It’s like Guitar Hero, but instead of instruments, it’s fur, claws, and pure chaos.
Watch as we try to make sense of this unhinged masterpiece from the golden age of Japanese gaming oddities. If you love retro games, obscure imports, or just watching fully grown adults question their life choices over a singing cat simulator, this is peak content.
We’re running it on the MiSTer FPGA, because nothing says “cutting edge retro gaming tech” like using a FPGA setup to play a game that sounds like your grandma's ringtone after three bottles of eggnog.
So crack open a can of tuna, plug in your controller, and come hang out as we explore one of the weirdest games ever to claw its way onto the PlayStation.
Like, comment, subscribe - or the cats will start singing outside your window tonight.
