Moon Cresta

Moon Cresta is a free fan-made recreation for the Commodore Amiga, built entirely from scratch by developer Johnny Acevedo of Amiten Games. It is not a direct code port of the original 1980 Nichibutsu arcade game; instead it was handcrafted from the ground up, with graphics extracted from MAME ROMs and converted for Amiga hardware. The project is dedicated as a tribute to François Lionet, creator of the AMOS programming language.

Around 99% of the game logic runs on AMAL scripting, with AMOS BASIC handling collisions, sound triggers and scoring. On a stock Amiga 1200 the game runs at a full 50Hz/50FPS, while on an Amiga 500 it currently runs at 25FPS. It supports joystick control, a three-part ship docking and assembly system, shooting mechanics with engine thrust animation, a dual playfield display (a 4-color scrolling starfield background and an 8-color foreground for the action), and is compatible with the A500+, A600, A2000, A3000, A1200 and A4000. It requires Kickstart 2.00 or higher; Kickstart 1.3 is not officially supported. The game is available to download for free (name your own price) on itch.io.

In this video we're running it on MiSTer FPGA with full gameplay and commentary, showing off this new Amiga release as it plays on real Amiga-accurate hardware emulation.
